STMicroelectronics provides a recommended PCB layout in the application note AN5273, which includes guidelines for component placement, routing, and thermal management to ensure optimal performance and minimize noise.
The UPSD3312DV-40T6 has a thermal pad that must be connected to a thermal ground plane on the PCB to dissipate heat. A thermal interface material (TIM) can be used to improve heat transfer. Additionally, the device has a thermal shutdown feature that turns off the output when the junction temperature exceeds 150°C.
The recommended input capacitor value is 10uF to 22uF, with a voltage rating of at least 50V. A low-ESR ceramic capacitor, such as an X7R or X5R type, is recommended to minimize voltage ripple and ensure stable operation.
The output voltage can be configured using the FB (feedback) pin and an external resistor divider network. The FB pin is connected to the output voltage through a resistor divider, and the output voltage is set by adjusting the ratio of the resistors.
The maximum output current capability of the UPSD3312DV-40T6 is 3A, but this can be limited by the thermal performance of the device and the PCB. It is recommended to derate the output current based on the ambient temperature and the thermal design of the system.
