Broadcom recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and thermal vias under the device to dissipate heat. A thermal pad on the bottom of the device should be connected to a thermal plane on the PCB.
Ensure that the device is operated within the recommended voltage and current limits, and that the PCB is designed to minimize thermal gradients. Additionally, consider using a thermal interface material to improve heat transfer between the device and the PCB.
The internal regulators should be set to the recommended values in the datasheet. For the MSA-0686-BLKG, the recommended settings are VCC = 1.8V, VDD = 3.3V, and VIO = 1.8V or 3.3V.
Use a spectrum analyzer to measure the device's output spectrum, and check for any signs of distortion or spurious emissions. Also, verify that the device is properly biased and that the input signal is within the recommended range.
Use ESD protection devices such as TVS diodes or ESD arrays on the input and output pins, and ensure that the PCB is designed with ESD protection in mind. Additionally, handle the device by the body or use an ESD wrist strap to prevent damage during handling.
