The MAX3232CDBR can support data rates up to 250 kbps in the RS-232 mode and up to 1 Mbps in the RS-485 mode.
To configure the MAX3232CDBR for RS-485 mode, connect the DE (Driver Enable) pin to a logic high level and the RE (Receiver Enable) pin to a logic low level. Additionally, connect the DI (Driver Input) pin to the transmit data and the RO (Receiver Output) pin to the receive data.
The maximum cable length that the MAX3232CDBR can support depends on the data rate and the type of cable used. As a general rule, the maximum cable length is approximately 1000 feet (305 meters) at a data rate of 9600 bps and 100 feet (30 meters) at a data rate of 115200 bps.
The MAX3232CDBR does not have built-in flow control. However, you can implement flow control using external circuitry, such as using the RTS (Request to Send) and CTS (Clear to Send) signals to control the data transmission.
The power consumption of the MAX3232CDBR depends on the operating mode and the supply voltage. In the RS-232 mode, the typical power consumption is around 5 mA at 5V supply voltage. In the RS-485 mode, the typical power consumption is around 10 mA at 5V supply voltage.
