A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate analog ground plane is recommended. Keep the thermocouple wires away from digital signals and ensure a low-impedance path to ground for the thermocouple shield.
The MAX31855TASA+T has an internal CJC sensor. Connect the CJC pin to a thermistor or a thermocouple connected to the cold junction. The device will automatically compensate for temperature variations.
A 10nF to 100nF ceramic capacitor is recommended between the VCC and GND pins to filter out noise and ensure stable operation.
Use the TCTYPE pin to select the thermocouple type (e.g., J, K, T, etc.). Consult the datasheet for the specific pin configuration for each thermocouple type.
The maximum cable length depends on the thermocouple type and the noise environment. As a general guideline, keep the cable length below 10 meters to minimize noise and ensure accurate measurements.
