    • The KF33BD is a very low drop regulator available in SO-8 package and in a wide range of output voltages. The very low drop voltage (0.4 V) and the very low quiescent current make them particularly suitable for low noise, low power applications and specially in battery powered systems. A shutdown logic control function is available (pin 5, TTL compatible). This means that when the device is used as a local regulator, it is possible to put a part of the board in standby, decreasing the total power consumption. It requires only a 2.2 µF capacitor for stability allowing space and cost saving.

    KF33BD Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

    • STMicroelectronics provides a recommended PCB layout in the application note AN5323, which includes guidelines for component placement, routing, and thermal management to ensure optimal performance and minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI).
    • To handle the high current consumption during startup, it's recommended to use a soft-start circuit or a current limiter to prevent inrush currents from damaging the device or the power supply. Additionally, ensuring a stable input voltage and using a sufficient decoupling capacitor can help reduce startup currents.
    • While the datasheet specifies an operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, it's essential to note that the device's performance and reliability may degrade at extreme temperatures. It's recommended to operate the device within a temperature range of -20°C to 85°C for optimal performance and reliability.
    • To ensure EMC, follow the guidelines in the application note AN5323, which provides recommendations for PCB layout, component selection, and shielding to minimize electromagnetic radiation and susceptibility. Additionally, using a metal shield or a Faraday cage can help reduce EMI.
    • While the datasheet specifies a minimum input voltage of 2.5V, it's recommended to operate the device with an input voltage range of 3.3V to 5.5V for optimal performance and reliability. Operating the device at the minimum input voltage may result in reduced performance and increased power consumption.
