    IR2101S Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

    • The maximum voltage rating of the bootstrap capacitor should be at least 2x the maximum voltage of the VCC supply, typically 15V to 20V.
    • Select a bootstrap capacitor with a voltage rating as mentioned above, and a capacitance value between 100nF to 1uF. The capacitor should also have a low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) to minimize voltage drops.
    • The SD (Shutdown) pin is an active-low input that disables the IC when pulled low. It can be used to shut down the IC during power-up or power-down sequences, or to implement a fault protection mechanism. Connect the SD pin to a logic low signal to disable the IC.
    • The IR2101S has a built-in dead time generator that ensures a minimum dead time of 100ns between the high-side and low-side switches. However, you can adjust the dead time by adding an external resistor and capacitor between the DT (Dead Time) pin and ground.
    • Keep the high-frequency switching nodes (e.g., VCC, VIN, and bootstrap capacitor) away from sensitive analog nodes. Use a solid ground plane, and route the high-current paths (e.g., VCC and VIN) with wide, low-impedance traces. Minimize the loop area of the high-frequency current paths to reduce EMI.
