XP Power recommends a PCB layout with a large copper area for heat dissipation, and a minimum of 2oz copper thickness. A thermal via array under the module is also recommended to improve heat transfer.
To ensure reliable start-up, XP Power recommends a soft-start circuit to limit the inrush current, and a sufficient input capacitance to stabilize the input voltage. A minimum input voltage of 12V is also recommended.
The maximum allowable capacitance on the output of the ECS65US15 is 220uF. Exceeding this value may cause instability or oscillation in the output voltage.
The ECS65US15 is rated for operation up to 80°C ambient temperature. However, derating of the output power is required above 60°C to ensure reliable operation. Consult the datasheet for derating curves.
The ECS65US15 has a built-in overcurrent protection feature. To implement it, connect a resistor (Rocp) between the OCP pin and the GND pin. The value of Rocp determines the overcurrent threshold. Consult the datasheet for calculation formulas.
