A thermal pad is recommended to be connected to a large copper area on the PCB to dissipate heat efficiently. A minimum of 2oz copper thickness is recommended. Additionally, vias can be used to connect the thermal pad to the copper area to improve heat dissipation.
The AL8807AMP-13 has an internal overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit that turns off the device when the input voltage exceeds 28V. However, it is still recommended to add external overvoltage protection circuitry to protect the device from voltage spikes or transients.
A low-ESR ceramic capacitor with a value of 10uF to 22uF is recommended to be placed close to the VIN pin to filter out noise and ripple.
The output voltage ripple can be calculated using the formula: ΔVout = (Iout x Rl) / (f x Cout), where Iout is the output current, Rl is the load resistance, f is the switching frequency, and Cout is the output capacitor value.
The maximum ambient temperature for reliable operation is 85°C. However, the device can operate up to 125°C with derating. It is recommended to ensure good airflow and heat dissipation to maintain a safe operating temperature.
