The recommended operating temperature range for the 6N139 is -40°C to 100°C.
To ensure proper biasing, the 6N139 requires a minimum of 1.4V forward voltage on the LED and a maximum of 10mA forward current. The output transistor should be biased with a collector-emitter voltage of at least 4.5V and a maximum collector current of 20mA.
The 6N139 has a maximum allowable isolation voltage of 5000Vrms between the input and output.
To protect the 6N139 from EMI, use a shielded cable for the input signal, keep the input and output circuits separate, and use a common-mode choke or ferrite bead on the input signal line.
The typical propagation delay time for the 6N139 is around 2-5μs.
